GRANTS AND SCHOLARSHIPS FOR CONFERENCES AND PROFESSIONAL DEVELOPMENT

The Barnes Foundation Scholarship
This scholarship enables Connecticut educators from Title 1 districts to attend Confratute. The grant provides support for individuals to participate either in the in-person or virtual Confratute events. An application to apply for this scholarship will be available soon.

 

American Association for University Women Funding Opportunities

Career Development Grants support women who hold a bachelor's degree and are preparing to advance their careers, change careers, or re-enter the work force. Special consideration is given to women of color, and women pursuing their first advanced degree or credentials in nontraditional fields. Grants provide support for course work beyond a bachelor's degree, including a master's degree, second bachelor's degree, or specialized training in technical or professional fields. Funds are available for distance learning. Course work must be taken at an accredited two- or four-year college or university in the United States, or at a technical school that is fully licensed or accredited by the U.S. Department of Education. Funds are not available for PhD-level work.

 

The NEA Foundation Learning & Leadership Grants

The NEA Foundation provides grants to support public school teachers, public education support professionals, and/or faculty and staff in public institutions of higher education for one of the following two purposes: Grants to individuals fund participation in high-quality professional development experiences, such as summer institutes, conferences, seminars, travel abroad programs, or action research; or grants to groups fund collegial study, including study groups, action research, lesson plan development, or mentoring experiences for faculty or staff new to an assignment.

 

National Council of Teachers of Mathematics Grants

Established by the National Council of Teachers of Mathematics, the Mathematics Education Trust (MET) offers opportunities to expand your professional horizons! MET supports the improvement of mathematics teaching and learning at the classroom level through the funding of grants, awards, honors, and other projects by channeling the generosity of contributors into classroom-based efforts that benefit all students. MET provides funds to support classroom teachers in the areas of improving classroom practices and increasing teachers' mathematical knowledge. MET also sponsors activities for prospective teachers and NCTM's Affiliates, as well as recognizing the lifetime achievement of leaders in mathematics education. There may be a program that's just right for you!

National Association for Gifted Children A. Harry Passow Classroom Teacher Scholarship

The National Association for Gifted Children (NAGC) annually awards the A. Harry Passow Classroom Teacher Scholarship to teachers of grades K-12 who have shown excellence in teaching gifted students, the ability to meet the needs of gifted students, and commitment to furthering the development of their teaching skills. The scholarship is designed to reimburse/defray the costs of continuing education for one eligible teacher currently teaching gifted students in a variety of educational settings ranging from a homogeneous or full-day special class to a heterogeneous classroom.

 

National Association for Gifted Children Javits-Frasier Scholarship Program

The Javits-Frasier Teacher Scholarship Fund for Diverse Talent Development seeks to increase culturally and linguistically diverse students' access to talent development opportunities through teacher and school counselor/psychologist training and support related to equity and excellence in gifted education. This scholarship program strives to identify passionate, innovative educators in communities across the country where students from culturally and linguistically diverse backgrounds are historically under-represented in gifted programs.

Scholarship recipients receive professional development opportunities that include:

  • Complimentary registration to the 2023 NAGC Annual Convention, plus travel stipend and hotel accommodations
  • Two-year NAGC individual membership
  • Participation in Javits-Frasier Scholar ‘roundtable’ discussions with other scholars, members of the NAGC Diversity and Equity Committee, and NAGC leadership
  • A professional mentor from among the NAGC membership

Corning Incorporated Foundation Grants

Corning's areas of involvement have included community service programs for students, curriculum enrichment, student scholarships, facility improvement and instructional technology projects for the classroom. Over the years, the Corning Incorporated Foundation has contributed more than $108 million through its programs of giving. Resources are directed almost exclusively toward initiatives which improve the quality of life in and near communities where Corning Incorporated is an active corporate citizen. Currently, the Foundation annually fulfills approximately 136 grants totaling some $3.0 million.

 

Innovative Technology Experiences for Students and Teachers (ITEST) Funding

ITEST is designed to increase the opportunities for students and teachers to learn about, experience, and use information technologies within the context of science, technology, engineering, and mathematics (STEM), including Information Technology (IT) courses. Supported projects are intended to provide opportunities for middle and high school children and teachers to build the skills and knowledge needed to advance their study, and to function and to contribute in a technologically rich society. ITEST has four components: (a) youth-based projects with strong emphases on career and educational pathways (b) comprehensive projects for students and teachers (c) renewals of existing projects (d) and an ITEST Resource Center.

 

McCarthey Dressman Education Foundation Teacher Development Grants

Academic Enrichment Grants are designed to develop in-class and extra-curricular programs that improve student learning. The Foundation considers proposals that foster understanding, deepen students' knowledge, and provide opportunities to expand awareness of the world around them. The Academic Enrichment Grants provide funding for programs that nurture the intellectual, artistic and creative abilities of children from low-income households. The McCarthey Dressman Education Foundation awards grants to individuals in amounts up to $10,000 per year for a maximum of three years provided the eligibility requirements continue to be met.

The Teacher Development Grants provide funding to individuals or small teams of teachers in the formation and implementation of groundbreaking k-12 classroom instruction. The grants provide opportunities for teachers to integrate fresh strategies that encourage critical inquiry and to observe their effects on students. Teachers have the opportunity to reflect and write about their projects, as well as to share their results with other teachers. The Foundation awards grants to individuals in amounts up to $10,000 per year for a maximum of three years, provided the eligibility requirements continue to be met.
